{"id":10,"date":"2010-07-28T06:35:29","date_gmt":"2010-07-28T06:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rabideau.org\/test\/?page_id=10"},"modified":"2025-08-17T23:46:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T23:46:11","slug":"expectations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rabideau.org\/rachel\/expectations\/","title":{"rendered":"What to Expect"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>What to expect from Educational Therapy sessions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The presence of a safe (and fun!) environment where the client feels safe and comfortable to take risks associated with learning. \u00a0This is based on a relaxed, supportive, therapeutic relationship between the client\/client\u2019s family and therapist.<\/li><li>Consideration of the client&#8217;s diverse academic, intellectual, and socioemotional needs<\/li><li>Strengthening the skills that are causing the client difficulty in order to improve independent and effective learning using research-based programs<\/li><li>Guiding clients and families towards a path that embraces their child&#8217;s neurodiversity<\/li><li>Helping parents understand appropriate client expectations<\/li><li>Identifying and utilizing appropriate compensatory strategies, including assistive technology when necessary, to promote the client&#8217;s success in the classroom environment<\/li><li>Utilization of mindfulness techniques to decrease anxiety and\/or increase focus<\/li><li>Understanding the client\u2019s learning issues in relation to the client\u2019s context, including the home, school, community, and culture<\/li><li>Demystification of the client&#8217;s learning disability\/learning difference(s), including an understanding of individual strengths and weaknesses<\/li><li>Assisting the client to effectively use necessary self-advocacy skills<\/li><li>Collaboration with child\u2019s parents, teacher(s), and other professionals involved with the client such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and developmental optometrists<\/li><li>Referral to outside professionals if needed<\/li><li>Helping parents navigate the request for assessment process in public schools<\/li><li>Respect for issues of confidentiality<\/li><li>Frequent and open communication between therapist and parent; therapy is most effective when parents are included in the skills and strategies taught during sessions<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Rachel Rabideau, M.A., ET\/P<\/em><\/strong><br><strong><em>38 W.
